Root canal treatment is a procedure used to save a tooth that has become infected or severely decayed. Inside every tooth is a chamber of soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When bacteria reach this inner layer through deep decay, a crack, or trauma, the pulp can become inflamed or infected. Left untreated, that infection spreads to the surrounding bone and tissue, and the tooth is eventually lost.
During treatment, Dr. Rudin removes the infected pulp, cleans and shapes the root canals, and seals the tooth to prevent reinfection. The tooth is then restored with a dental crown to protect it and restore full function. The result is a tooth that looks, feels, and performs like a healthy one.

Most appointments are completed in a single visit, and many patients return to their normal routines the same day.

Recovery after a root canal is typically straightforward. Some mild soreness around the treated area is normal for a few days and responds well to over-the-counter pain relievers. You can eat normally once the numbness wears off, though it is best to avoid chewing directly on the treated tooth until the permanent crown is placed.
Once the crown is in, your restored tooth requires no special maintenance. Brushing, flossing, and regular checkups keep it healthy indefinitely. Maintaining good periodontal health around the treated tooth also plays an important role in its long-term success.
